About Sandy Springs Tamil School

Welcome to Sandy Springs Tamil School! Our school is run by a dedicated group of volunteers from the greater Atlanta area who are passionate about promoting the Tamil language to the next generation. Inspired by the timeless words of Kaniyan Poongundranar, “யாதும் ஊரே யாவரும் கேளிர்” ("All places are our own; all people are our kin"), we carry our precious language, culture, and traditions wherever we go. Tamil is one of the world's oldest and most enduring classical languages, with a literary heritage spanning over 2,000 years. We are honored to be a small part of this vast tradition and are committed to passing on our language skills to the younger generation.

Our primary goal is to help our children speak Tamil confidently and without hesitation. We introduce phonetic methods in line with grammar and vocabulary, starting with simple words and gradually building up to forming sentences, engaging in conversations, debating, and reciting. We emphasize learning Tamil through games, conversations, songs, and fun activities to spark interest in a lively classroom environment. Whether a child is a complete beginner or understands Tamil but struggles with speaking, our curriculum, combined with ample practice, will ensure they gain the confidence and skills needed to speak Tamil fluently.

Mission

Our mission is to systematically teach the Tamil language in a conversational format to children aged 4 and above in and around the Sandy Springs area, providing a safe, caring, and nurturing environment. In addition, we organize and support events that promote and celebrate Tamil language and heritage.

Vision

Our vision is to foster a lasting interest in Tamil language, literature, and culture by regularly organizing educational programs, cultural events, and social activities. These initiatives are designed to give our students opportunities to apply the language and literary skills they develop through consistent classroom engagement. We also help students prepare for national-level Tamil competitions and provide them with platforms to participate and showcase their talents.

Foundation

SSTS was founded in the 2024-2025 academic year by a board of members that includes Mr. Jayasarathi M and Mr. Mahendiran Manickam. We began our journey with 30 students and 8 teachers.

This program has been affiliated with American Tamil Academy and their syllabus.
